A Doff of the Cap

A doff of the cap
  a tip of the hat
Nowadays
  we rarely see that

It’s not that
  men walk about
unhatted, uncapped

Rather, removing the cap
  reveals quite a gap

You are correct, which is an insightful observation. You know I never like to incite anyone. Once again I tip my hat to you.

Ha, ha, ha! Love your comment, Kenneth! (I think you meant 'insightful' with an 's.'... But I like what you wrote better!) ~ The Instigator

I've noticed another chivalrous gesture that has gone away: a wave of "thank you" on the freeway when somebody lets another car into their lane... very rare to see these days. Nice write, Lobo

Thank you has been replaced oft-times by three fingers, and you are supposed to 'read between the lines.' ~ Birdman

In my case, I forget I'm wearing it, gw. I didn't start wearing a cap until rather recently, and I forget I have it on, I'm so used to it. I try to remember to remove it when I'm eating.

Can I call you 'Cap' now? -- as in 'Cap Anson,' the all-time great Chicago White Stockings (now Cubs) player?

My wife doesn't sit down at the table until I do -- which isn't long! lol. ~ They don't call me late to dinner! :)
