Fictional write obviously, sad song about a man, losing his child after his wife leaves to to start a new life. Not based on any of my experiences personally.

A darker shade of blue

I came home from work today
and saw the note you left
It took me by surprise
couldn't imagine what it said

You said you needed time and space
to figure some things out
I think there's prob'ly more to this
you left me here with my doubts

You called me up the other day
and said our daughter's doing fine
She started her new school today
she'll call when she finds time

I can't believe what you just said
although, I know that it is true
I guess you found your time and space
now I'm a darker shade of blue

Chorus
I guess I'm happy for you
yeah, so happy for you
You're trying to find a new life
and I know that it's true
but, I think you might come back to me
or maybe you don't want to...
now, I'm a darker shade of blue

So much time has passed me by
but I still feel the same
My life ended long ago
the day you walked away

You called me on the phone today
said you've found your one true love
I guess I was just dreaming
cause, I thought I was the one.

Bridge
Looks like...I'll keep living without you
Looks like...there's nothing left to say
Looks like...I'll just stay home without you
Cause with this latest news...
now, I'm a darker shade of blue

Chorus
I'm so happy for you
really...happy for you
You finally found your new life
and I know that it's true
but, now I know you won't come back to me
Cause, you really don't want to...
now, I'm a darker shade of blue

Now I see you won't come back to me
Cause, you really don't want to
Now I'm a darker shade of blue.

I'm a darker shade of blue (repeat two more times)

(fade to zero)

John, it's a funny thing about when someone walks out of a relationship. Even if they come back, it's really not much of a relationship and seldom works out. For song purposes, it makes for a good subject. But in reality once that trust has been breached... I like the song!

I like what you did with this, for me this is a hard contest because writing a song is harder than writing a poem. I do find it interesting you had to explain this is fiction, I understand it though, for some reason some believe that every poem posted is written from something that actually happened and not created from the poet's mind...good luck in the contest

Hi Frederick, funny, for me writing a song is easier than poetry, shows you are a natural poet. I think more so with songs people usually feel it springs from personal experience, but not so in my case. This is not for the song contest, my seagull and the dove is the one entered. I appreciate your feedback, you are a real talent!
