dainty lass, cocooned by mother's care,  father's arms, gleeful and merry...  alive warrior queen, in chants, twirling blithe, frolicking carefree! in the lap of lustrous nature,  an elegant beauty existed!  Prince trotted by, caught glimpse of her... splendid vision unexpected. fell in love, with charming damsel,  breathtaking beauty, a soul pure, kind and brave, believed in her strength, symbol of courage, he waited for.  fascinated, begged for her hand,  Prince found his glorious gem, Alive is the warrior queen,  life is stranger than fairytale.  blissful, gleeful, tranquil until  life brought tragedy unforeseen young King left her with infant child.  graceful princess turned valiant Queen,                                                     no tiara of gold and gems,                          or a jewel-encrusted throne,                      saving country with strongest hands,                          defend land with bravery shown.  .                        demure Princess mustered all strength,                          turned into Queen on a horseback,                          warrior suit on, husband's sword,                          Jhansi, in danger of foreign attack.                             protecting from cruel enemy                        Fighter Queen undaunted, fearless,  Undying love from deceased husband,                           blessings from beloved parents.                           Warrior Queen went to battle                            on loyal horse, carrying infant,                          fought until her last drop of blood                            shed on soil of her dearest land.                              Alive is the Warrior Queen,                            in chanted strains melodious,                             beautiful as ravishing Rose,                          courageous as Mother Earth. A great tribute to a fearless lady who took on the might of the British Empire! Rani of Jhansi must be made into a movie! May be a Hollywood movie! The Mutiny of 1857 would be a fantastic movie! This is a ‘veer ras’ poem as they say in Hindi and would be better if it could be set to a beat!

Thank you, Krish. Yes, I admire the courage of Rani Lakshmi Bai, imagine how strong she was. Wrote this as a ballad for Constance's contest, but found structure of ballad a little stricter - so wrote another one following that structure, but didn't want to give this up. A ballad is usually sung, my other version might be more suitable for adding a beat. Hollywood movie is a marvellous idea. BW ~ Mala
