A Cool and Misty Autumn Morning
On a cool and misty autumn morning,
I heard a gnawing, chomping sound.
It came from on the window vine;
A hungry critter’s scratching around.
It was a bittersweet moment,
For I wanted a bit more sleep;
I rolled over in my first warm covers;
Retrieved from the closet deep.
There was a silvery sheen upon the clouds,
As the dawn dropped its window dew;
I imagined the smell of coffee, then
Sighed that the nighttime was through
