A Christmas Quest
Eyes open wide…heart beating fast…mind determined…
The quest is a go…putting all my weight on the balls of my feet…
I leap into the air…frozen in time…I tightly grip the rough pine needles… before falling… to my death…
Taking a long breath…I move swiftly through the tangled branches…
Dodging shiny round ornaments and striped candy canes…I extend my claws and swipe at the brightly lit Christmas lights… dangling in my face…
Whiskers twitching…I stretch my furry body toward the prize…
Standing alone…it beckons me…the light reflects the shimmer of color streaming through the crystal-like glass…
Ever so lightly I sniff it…musically purring I rub my soft head against its smooth surface…then…
Without warning I lose grip…and fall through sharp limbs…falling…still falling…to landing on my feet…
With despair in my eyes…I peer up toward the gigantic green tree…realization setting in…
“I have to start over”!
