A Blue-Green Jewel

A blue-green jewel in a starry sea
was left for them to care and keep
But ants upon the floating ball
were pirates and denied it all
The sky spoke on, the earth still stood
The blinded said they understood
But every word was dripping blood
The sapphire blackened, crimson grime
Tears can’t remove in all this time
Tears of stars and purer eyes
Blood of innocence and lies
Graffiti nameless on their walls
Behind them every vandal smiles
and shakes a fist at weeping skies
The jewel dies
But a shadow cuts the shade and light
invades the labyrinth of hate
‘Cross the heart of adamant
A signet stamped - a claim is made
And deeper red makes paths for tears
Once and now for hurting years
Rebels come to heal

That's very welcoming, thank you! How do you find time to read and encourage so much? I'm 64, got married only 2 years ago to Thea, very happy. We live in Coventry; we're Christians. Thea is a nurse, I'm a biologist by training, I do tutoring plus other work. We enjoy God, people, nature, life and more. I've been writing poems since a free lesson at school back in about 1969 - but I won't deluge this site! All the best, Piers

Amazing poem, Piers, Welcome to Poetry soup, I hope you enjoy the community. Here, you will find friendly poets who enjoy supporting one another. I myself, enjoy reading and commenting those who want to be read. The only time I give constructive criticism is when a poet desires it. However, if for some reason the poem is not my field I will guide you to someone who is more qualified than I. Stop by and read one of my poems if you like. My poems are not perfect, but I have a feeling you might like one. I encourage you to check out the contest page and read to receive comments. Tell me a little about your poetic skills if you like. It will be my pleasure to follow and read every poem you post from here on :) We are Lucky To Have you. Your New Poet Friend @-> LINDA <-@

Well you didn't destroy me! Feel free to give critical comments; I'm not too sensitive. I'll follow up your tips, thanks. My skills are only self taught; I like poetry's lack of rules. It's a good way to express your heart and creativity, succinctly. I like poetry that is reasonably comprehensible, not too obscure or full of clever allusions in Greek etc. But I do appreciate true wordsmiths. Piers
