A Bee's Soliloquy

I am a tiny winged buzzing insect A friend to folks and flowers alike Another name for hard work Toiling untiring from dawn to dusk I set out merry, humming a tune, On my professed mission of gathering honey The flowers freshly bathed in dew Eagerly await my propitious visit I like to flit from flower to flower I love dallying with floral beauties Gladiolus, Chrysanthemums and Petunias Red geraniums and colorful Zinniahs But I prefer to hover over clustered blooms Which hang from trees’ stooping boughs From each flower I sup to my fill And my body gets covered in yellow dust I don’t believe in the Epicurean dictum Of ‘Eat, drink and be merry’ Neither do I live just for today I await a future that is trouble free We work tireless till the day is done And see that every cell of our hive is full We never complain of those among us Who stay idle and thrive on our labor Never grumble against the privileged Queen Who enjoys unique status with rights many For we respect the Nature-ordained hierarchy As we know, a mob without a leader would be anarchy Bee Creative Poetry Contest Sponsor- Matt Caliri Placed First 23. Hello Valsa ... particularly bees and ants know how important that every member plays their role for the hive to flourish. We as humans could learn so much from these hard working insects - thank you Valsa - Lindsay

Hard work does result in sweetness! Enjoyed! Aloha! n.b. Brown-faced Hawaiian honeybees seldom sting!

I don't know about them. Here they sting and sometimes it becomes fatal too. But in general they are so harmless and useful ! Thanks Rico

There was a time when bees were dying and many scientists had to find a cure quickly enough. Bees are very important for the propagation of flowers. A lovely poem. Victor

I enjoyed reading your soliloquy of a bee, industrious little buzzing insects they certainly are, ants also. Best of luck in the contest. Hugs, blessings, Jennifer.

My friend, Valsa, you've nailed it when it comes to bees. As a result, they make lovely natural companions. However, if they go extinct, it would be dreadful for humankind. This poem you wrote deserves a contest win.

You are absolutely right Lasaad. If they go extinct it will be a terrible loss to our environment ! Thanks a lot !

You covered all the attributes of bees my friend. They are delightful partners for nature's symbiosis. Much deserving of this ode you wrote. Win BIG, Valsa.

We had beehives in my ancestral home and I used to watch bees with a lot of curiosity even as a child. So I know much about their communal life. Thanks a lot Vijay!

Sadly many are dying because of pesticides and the like. It will be a dark day for mankind when they become extinct. Good luck Valsa. Tom

If bees are destroyed it will definitely result in an ecological imbalance ! The pesticides are the main culprit ! Thanks a lot Tom
