My Faceted Rubies

I spent my day shopping for rubies. It's an indulgence - you see. I always choose the most faceted ones and take them home with me. I fashion them into beautiful jewelry and by early the next day, I've need to shop and purchase more for I give all my trinkets away. When the clerk sees me approaching, he displays trays of crimson stones, then says with a sly twinkle in his eyes, "Nice to see you again, Ms. Jones." Today, I chose two with radiant sparkle and held one next to each ear. He flattered me so I'd buy the baubles, "They are exquisite on you, my dear." He needn't have bothered with cajolery. I bought those rubies and more. He boxed them for me, smiled and said, "Ta ta," when I walked out the door. I thought he was impertinent and snide. and will not deal with one so rude. Tomorrow I will find a new ruby broker; who has a more courteous attitude. I spent my day shopping for rubies, radiant in quality and clarity. I will continue to browse, searching for those I consider a rarity. First Line Prompt -3 Poetry Contest Sponsored by Julia Ward Posted on July 12, 2020

Superbly narrated, Jenna. As Sinatra once (almost) crooned: 'Ruby-dooby-doo...' Best of luck in the contest. Have a happy week now! Joy and Light, Gershon

The most honest ones are surrendered to such an effort that remains unconditional, those open-minded gifts. May I see just how this looks in respect to your generosities? I fancy a good woman, that I consider will do this gift far, far fare and ever-considerate justice. She is divine, she is hopeful, she is humble, she has stolen my heart, my mind. I hope that you do not mind truly, that, a gift, I desire to give, friend, because, this gift, is for the fetching woman, that I see in you?

Well, hello, James. Your poetic response is quite a generous gift in itself. If your gift is the kindness of words, I humbly accept them. Divine? I assure you, I'm not, but I was near the blushing point while reading your thoughts.

Your surname is an Irish one and your love of emeralds, do you have any Irish connections?

It's not rubies I'm after, Tom, but it's the gemstone required by the contest. I'm more of an emerald loving girl. Thanks for reading and leaving your thoughts for me. So far the weekend is quiet, and that's a good thing. Enjoy yours, too.
