Identity and the Mirror of Consciousness
Before the emergence of consciousness,
we were a reflection of God.
Afterward, unable to perceive identity through internal reflection,
God became a reflection of us;
consciousness splitting the mirror -
two hemispheres asking: “Who are you?”
But no mirror can reflect itself—
so in that fracture, identity becomes alienated,
externalized, 'Other'd;
yet, even in this exile,
human identity remains one facet of the Earth;
a lens through which the planet becomes aware of itself
in language, breath and form,
and in the question that still echoes from her:
“Who are you?”
