85th Birthday - Journal Ix

85TH BIRTHDAY – Journal IX Nostalgia figures no time span An event of many, many years seems no more than a few Looking out on the world with the same eyes Memory is tricked Ah yes that, but wishfulness too Events colors take on a magical gleam The mind-body frolics with actions of a child, Hop scotching, kicking the can Long lost sounds ghostly renew All pain is forgotten In favor of some drowsy awareness One is surprised that memory has, for the moment, erased that pain Periods of nostalgia increase The slipping away is frightening – What is death but A complete slipping away – In these last few I shall covet reality RESTR

This is what memiors are made of Dave. Pieces that stand out in memory, things that have special meaning you want to share. It is so interesting how our perception of age changes as time passes. When I was twelve I thought my friends parents were old at thirty five. Now I see how young they were. I wish every young person could understand this about age. You still feel young inside your ageing body, but you can no longer do the things of youth except in memory. Your poem expresses this wonderfully Daver. Hugs, Connie

With each passing year I become more in touch with my younger more innocent self. I am less concerned about what others think and more free to play. If not for the aches and pains I would choose to live forever. Fortunately beyond that final door my eternity and new body awaits my arrival, still I am in no hurry to open the door.

by the way, I can't get myself to sleep longer than four or five hours any more, and I need that sixth or seventh one to really experience good dreams like the flying ones. So what do you suggest for someone who wakes up too early???
