2017
Now all the presents they have been shared,
Showing some folk just how much we cared.
Now all the cards have been sent showing cheer,
Showing some folk a thought, only once a year.
Now all the drinking, singing and eating of much,
Wishing folk well and be sure to stay in touch.
Now all start the New Year with the same thought,
Chats with nice folk the next day come to nought.
Now we all have numbers scribbled on paper scraps,
We say in the morning, we'll stay in touch, perhaps.
Now all is put away, the parties done for the year.
We can get on with life without shedding a tear,
Now all some folk want is to stay in touch this year,
Maybe all they needed was a friend just to be near.
Now all it may be is a very simple task,
Is for you to listen awhile, when they ask.
Now being alone in a crowded place full of laughter
For someone in need it's a time of disaster
They need a friend with a listening ear in that throng,
They are reaching out for a friend with a quiet tongue.
Please put your Christmas platitudes back on the shelf.
If you can help others then you help yourself too.
In this new year please help someone who needs you.
