I’m routinely interrupted by this monster’s ring, I seldom respond to the message it might bring. I employ the machine to screen each caller, For a great percent are those seeking a dollar. It’s usually a survey or an eight hundred number, From shortly after daybreak until bedtime slumber. I’ve never been a person to just idly sit and jaw, Soaking up gossip, enduring another’s chutzpah; Often I sit motionless like a mannequin on display, Reaffirming the times of interruption that day;
