Some gates are difficult to open
while others are open all the time
                            Tall, low, simple or elaborate
and someone who needs a tightener
To make the path narrow and the gate high
or was it the other way around ... (?)

The grass is not always greener
                            on the other side
The gate is for the initiates only
                            so has been,
since other generations passed by ...
                            When the gate was closed,
                            it was closed forever
I hear the hum of lazy bumblebees

You drew me in immediately with " Some gates are difficult to open while others are open all the time" and you did not let me go. The ending is classic!

Anne-Lise, For want of a little WD40 from heaven's tool kit, love. To save all who have been left the wrong side of the gate. Lovely your path narrow and gate high, truly. -Richard

Gates would likely tell fascinating tales, if they could talk. The past is like the gate-of much of it, present and future generations will remain unaware. An awesome poem for the contest, and I love the picture, too. Hugs, Evelyn :)

Oil can make a gate open easily but you have to be careful which to open, which to close. Well-planned poem, dear Anne Lise. Hugs.

A lone rusty gate generates questions, what was its purpose?

- It can be marking between properties ... or to keep the animals within the grazing area - This has not been used for many years ... I think - but still stands there - A memory from ancient times, Delice :) - hugs // Anne-Lise :)

Hello Sunshine Smile too bad that the next generation passes by without seeing the gates. They miss a lot of the beauty in front of their eyes. Hugs Darlene.

A very well-penned poem, Anne-Lise, with many interesting thoughts and imagery, gates can be easy to open, and sometimes whatever you try, it won't. I wish you good luck with the contest// many hugs
