Poem

Standing 
on the edge of the forest,
lurking with my friend 
                           (the dark),
feeling the night breeze
brush across my face,
                           it feels good.
Images form
of my next escapade
     and as it intensifies
          in my mind
              my eyes
roll back in my head
and I start to drool,
the anticipation
is gnawing on my gut
and I feel
    a vibration
         in my chest
as a growl
     escapes my lips,
shaking dead leave
loose from
    the branches above.

It's drawing close
to the time
       for my next episode,
time to reach
       for another soul,
taste the hot,
           metallic fluid
as it slides down my throat.

So I sink 
     back into the darkness,
it surrounds me
           and I become one with it,
back to my natural bond
and within a breath
                             I'm there,
lying in wait
   in your home,
       waiting for 
myself to calm,
  there's no fun
          if I start too pumped up,
and as the red 
  clears from my eyes
I hear your footsteps 
on the floor
moving away.
I pop
     from shadow
            to shadow
drawing closer,
getting to know
the layout of your house.

I stir the air,
causing an unnatural wind
    to blow across
        the back of your neck,
                       ruffling your hair,
you look around
              but find nothing.
Moving closer
       I pass my ghost like hand
through your chest
         and chills
    run up and down
                  your spine,
again,
      again,       
            again,
your limbs
     start to grow numb
as your blood
       slowly freezes
                            within.
