Poem
Two four-letter words, I truly despise Got nothing but hate for them, I’m not gon lie ... but I got my reasons why Jobs! Politicians always seem to forget to put menial in front of it I’m a Hebrew snob, don’t come talking ‘bout giving me some low prestige job And the pay is certain to be minimum To an aristocratic cat like me, for my long-term health, it pays better being a bum Jobs! Unh, unh ... Don’t utter that curse word to me, there’s plenty of ways to better optimize my cosmic energy Politicians always try to low ball you for free, I never play myself short ... Did I tell you, I’m Israelite royalty Work! That’s the other four-letter word that jangles my janx I know when I’m hearing the truth; and when someone’s trying to fake the real, I know when it ain’t Me saw my mama and daddy working 48 hours a day Saw them working a second job, graveyard shifts and every holiday, just to reach another mortgage pay Work! That the first thing a politician promise to give a son of a slave Then they want me act so grateful ... no sir, I’m not cut that way See, I’m a diamond polished in a green Zebulun field My pen is the only thing I’m lifting, it got plenty of sapphire skill Politicians work short hours, get long vacation time Then they try to sell you that a lot of work is good for an idle mind Unh, unh ... There’s a beehive of creative activity buzzing in my head ... nonstop honey sunshine Work and jobs! They can’t sweat talk a brother, give me plantation promises Breaking back news Don’t give me none of that futuristic wage talk Rocket blast-off to the moon — while you’re whistling that same old-timey Dixie tune They can keep their shovel, they can throw away their broom Either way, it really don’t matter to me ... when I came out of the womb, I was born breathing free Wasn’t chained to no clock, wasn’t piling no oars on a dock Was led by the Good Shepherd, who gave plenty rest to the flock Jobs and work! This brother’s destiny ain’t chained to the dirt Guess you could say, this son of a slave loved the beautiful words my God had to say He promised me rest each and every day Now the easiest work I do is dropping to my knees to pray And the only job I got is chasing the devil away Trying to get to my Canaan home was the most work I ever did in life, But I never woulda made it without the help of Jesus Christ Now most days, I’m chilling in a lounge chair, relaxing in the backyard That barbecue grill is smoking ... I gotta get up and turn the meat Man, that job is hard! And I gotta do the tasting, make sho’ it all came out right That kinda work might have me eating thru the night Man, that work is hard! What can I say ... I’m living a blessed life!
