Poem
You said you liked my simple poems, well here’s one, no flowery thoughts or images to share, nor assonance or dissonance, not even a rhyme, just simple words and thoughts and emotions… (selfish emotions). I would be surprised if you read them anymore, anyway. Yes, again, it’s that time of year. I’ve written this early, I knew you wouldn’t be there. Not for me. Did you forget, or just not care? When you asked last Spring you seemed so sincere. Such an easy thing to say, that would mean so much, but why bother. It says everything about how you feel, or should I say, about how you don’t feel …anything, but that’s not your fault, you’re not the cause of this. You were kind and gentle, and you smiled. Oh, how you smiled with honesty and warmth. I’m the guilty one. It was I who opened up to you, It was I who allowed you in, but who could blame me. When I looked into your eyes you bewitched me, you enchanted me with your beautiful mind …and body. Not that I ever expected anything from you (although I believe you think I did), just a grain of hope, no expectations. I remember the beginning of what could have been a truly meaningful relationship, sharing time together talking and laughing, sometimes deep into the night, telling each other our secrets, phone calls and texts on the way home. Then nothing. Like a bolt of lightning from a cloudless sky, you struck me deep inside …then you were gone. Now, so is the hope, gone, and I am left wondering. We still see each other, but you have pushed me away so hard and so often that my heart is black and blue and filled with emotional bruises. You told me what you think of me. You called me selfish (perhaps I am). Now, it seems, to allow me two minutes to say goodnight is but a waist of your time. Until this day I was hurt but now I am dead inside …again, (such a shame when you were the one who started my heart beating, once more) completely empty, but I can’t help asking myself did you think about me for an instant, or did it come and go unnoticed, without a thought to cloud your mind? Well, it’s too late, now. It’s gone. It’s over. A meaningless moment, lost. Just another day, passed. If you remember, if a flicker of light shines bright above your beautiful head, or a gentle smile dances in your mesmerizing eyes when, or more likely if, it dawns on you, don’t waste your time. That’s all it would be. I wish I could say thank you. 12/12/2017
