JUST ONE OF THE BOYS

You wait your turn,
just one of the boys.
Standing in line
to play with your toys.

Gnawing on bones
of fleeting pleasure.
Thrown by gods
that stole your treasure.

Evil men led you astray
captured your soul, carried it away.
Silent lips kissed the night.
Lusting eyes took your sight.

Is this who you really are?
Or what you’ve become?
Selling your birthright
for a few measly crumbs.

Refusing to take a stand
that measures your worth.
You’ve join faceless others
as your fears gave birth.

When will you stop
following the crowd?
When will your voice
be heard out loud?

But it’s not within
to do what’s right.
You embrace the darkness
and ignore the light. 

On an ordinary  day
you draw that last breath.
Coldness circles,
you see your own death.

You see what you’ve worshiped,
surrounded only by your toys.
You finally realize
you were just one of the boys.
