Poem
He had recently turned 58, and she was only 35. He was 41, and she was 18 when love brought them together. They had met and come together in the mid-1940's, just after the war. He was too old to fight in the military, but served well as a man of the land. At the time of his demise, all their kids were under the age of eighteen. Between the two of them, they had eleven children; four boys and seven girls. Even by the standards of the day, 23 years apart was noticeable, but all was legal. I also suspect that an 18 and a 35 year old female back then was far more mature. An inquiiry was made with regards to their faithfulness to each other, but no affairs could be verified. So apparently, he had no other kids outside of their marrage during their 17 years together. All indications are that she was a kind and gentle lady at a very young age, ready to provide all the stability required for the home of a hard working farmer. She was still a young lady when I first became acquainted with her, but when I came to know her husband, he was already a rather aging man. They endured hardships together, and although a good provider, he became a drinking and gambling man. Nevertheless, through their ups and downs and during the times that he behaved badly, she stood by him. I feel certain that it was love that brought them together, and love must have kept them together. How else could one explain their endurance together til death parted them? What else beside love could have enabled them to bridge the generation gap? Such a leap would not be my cup of tea, but I still believe love to be a many splendor thing. 12112017 PS Contest, Age Doesn't Matter When You're In Love, J. Rodeheaver 2P
