Poem
You didn't owe me a thing even if I thought you did I felt you should have supported me as I was your kid Tears shed, scars gained, a life that has been sad You don't owe me a thing, because you were never my dad I thought you would answer my crying calls Maybe you couldn't hear me from the other side of the wall Did my cries for help, get in the way of your thinking? You had every right to spend your sons food money on your drinking I'm the Son of an alcoholic so I don't drink much I act reckless and don't think much Going crazy I'm on the brink of I need to move my pen, but the inks stuck You and mum fighting while I would hide upstairs A house of alcohol, there wasn't much love there No clothes on my body, no food for me to eat The love of his dad is all a little boy needs I got took into foster care and you didn't feel a loss In the big wide world, I was just a little boy lost Looking outside the window, hoping his dad would come I imagined you picking me up, oh how I was dumb You had every right to act like I didn't exist Turn up for contact 6 times a year and not give me a kiss I could smell the alcohol on your breath, couldn't you just spend one day sober? I would cry myself to sleep after contact, as I didn't have your shoulder I was bullied at school and made to feel worthless Passed around foster families, feeling like I didn't have a purpose Maybe I was wrong for hoping you'd pick up the phone sometime Maybe I was a selfish kid for hoping my dad would actually be mine You died when I was 14 and I didn't shed a tear You can't miss what you never had Nothing but pain, with no memories to share I was all I ever had You didn't want to be a dad so i Raised myself I Thought you'd be a hero but you wasn't so i Saved myself You didn't owe me a thing even if I thought you did I felt you should have supported me as I was your kid
