Poem
Hi Sis. I came today to say hello and spend some time with you. I know that your body was laid to rest, but the real you is not here. And I also know that there is a gulf separating the dead from the living. But still, this is the best and only way for now that the two of us can share. I will never cease to remember the January day I received a call from Chicago. Our younger sister called that fateful day and said to me, “Please listen, Ella is now missing”. She indicated that she was looking everywhere. Worried, shocked, and sad, I needed more air. There was a rush of thoughts that I could not bare. I was in California, so many miles away. I felt really helpless; so with sorrow, fears, and tears, I began to pray. The hours slowly passed as we waited to hear, hoping so desperately that you would soon be near. Those long hours turned to days, and I continued to worry and to fear. Two days passed, and we got word that you were found. So happy at first, but as our sister spoke, my head began to pound. She said, “Ella is in the hospital from a terrible accident". From the sound of her voice, I could tell what she meant. You had no I D, which was the reason for so much suspense. The night was long; something went wrong; soon, you would be gone. The next day was long; I went to the phone; you were barely hanging on. The doctor told our younger sister that you were too weak to survive. My emotions went wild, when I realized you would not be alive. The tears poured; my heart was set on fire, and I could hardly breathe. Yes, Ella, you had passed, and deep within me was that unforgettable cry. Oh Sis, they say that time heals all wounds. After 20 years, the pain has subsided. You were such a dear. I miss you so much and have wished that we had grown old together. I Love you.
