Poem

I watched as the clouds gathered overhead,
And the setting sun turned bloody red.

The wind started picking up a might,
Looks like we’re in for a sleepless night.

Tumbleweeds were flying by,
Piling themselves in piles reaching upwards for the sky.

The animals were all hunkering down,
With lightning striking all around.

I saw a tree go up in smoke and flames,
Extinguished quickly by the pouring rains that came.

The winds were howling as the rain fell hard,
A candle lit table I sit playing cards.

I got up and stoked the fire a might
Watching the embers dance in the darkness of the night.

The fire felt good for I had gotten wet outside,
Looking for my dog, darn his ornery hide.

As we both stood by the fire to warm,
I enjoyed this little fellows company, I called him my lucky charm.

I pitched us a pallet there on the floor,
But my pup kept going to the door.

I heard something whining outside so I got up to check,
There on the porch a momma dog with puppies oh what the heck!

Well my pallet got full that cold and rainy night,
Full of playful puppies oh what a sight!
