Poem
I'm old this is how the world treats me I've worked for more than 49 years Some of that time for only one dollar fifteen cents an hour Now when it come down to giving me what's mine You fuss, you scream and holler; What's the matter I'm retired my house is paid off, now I can't afford to heat it with gas But alas all's not lost It's been reprocessed by the local government for back taxes You place me In a nursing home nothing wrong with me mentally or physically You just want me out of the way it seems Now I've saved my monies all in one bank And all I got is one percent interest And when I want to drive my car you say I am too old git out the way You call me a cab you sell my car Now I'm too old to walk this far You put me last when I should be first I remember when it was you whom I co-birth You treat me like a Hebrew slave when in all it shouldn't be this way So I humbly accept my dismay Every night on my knees I pray Help me Lord in my distress Comfort me an grant me thy rest I look forward to some peace on earth But greater and granter still I await you in eternity With you and Jesus forever free I'm old this is how the world treats me When I'll have no memory of how the world treated me 08/25/15 written by James Edward Lee Sr.2015 from anthology" Poetry to Bridge Generations Elderly and Youth"2015
