Two soldiers. One fancies himself a punk rocking soldier of fortune and the other, nicknamed hillbilly, because he lost his shoes, they plan a trip anarchist cookbookrecipe fear and loathingbeyond culture shock  We journey to Carlsbad, through the desert highway, after taking a psychedelic compound. The desert was strange. Sandy beaches, peppered with green tumbleweeds, traveling at high speeds, in the convertible MG. We spot a fenced auto graveyard. A faded fifty something yellow cab, stands out of the forgotten wreckage.  first waypoint trash heapwhere memories go to diesomething blooms there we pass parched cities not yet ghost towns, along the long black road and an emergency telephone on splintering poles,then out the flat desert, rises some foot hills, giving it contour. It felt like walking on a cushion, flipping over a piece of cracked earth, looks like dry cow dung, nothing special here Once salty seasensory perception killjoya barren flop Time is consuming or lost, so we drive to the cave and decide to take the elevator, about an eight hundred foot plunge. Thoughts of Hunter S.Thompson’s long black chute but there were no outrageous bats. The doors open to a large cavern, with ambient light. What is that? A well-lit cafeteria. Ahhh! A stark contrast to the scorching desert. Rock formations poised, along the lighted walkways, with names like the caveman, doll’s theater, temple of the sun but my favorites the guardian, It is towering skeletal figure, with jutting jaws and draped in a ragged white veil, woe! I could go on, about the cave pearls and Helectites, looking like white string worms!silly soda strawsdraperies of stone swayskyscraper totem poles
