Poem
Cloaked in a painted garment, covering the entire horizon                                                                                          Not a sign of moon nor stars; but simply total darkness

There were short periods of silence, scary and torturous                                                                                  There were intermittent sounds and streaks of light

Even the thunder seemed tamed at short intervals                                                                                                                But everyone knew that the party in earth's atmosphere

was just about ready to rock, roll, rumble, and shout                                                                                                There was a mystery, but it was mysterious to visitors only

We, the native ones, were all too familiar with nature's ways                                                                                     Experience had taught us that at any given moment,

as the elders would say, "All hell is about to break loose".                                                                                                  Or they would whisper, "An ominous dark cloud is going                                                                                     

to burst and pour".  And like, if during the day, there was bright                                                                          sunlight, and also raining, our elders said, "The devil is beating his wife".

Why, we never realized that the devil was married; and we didn't care.                                                                           We children believed every word our elders spoke, which was mostly true

But some of what we heard was mystery, especially at night.                                                                                              They told us all kinds of 'believables' that we refused to refute

So we moved in close and held each other tight, til the mystery nights passed                                               Often, after the 'light shows' and great 'sound effects', the storms also passed
