Poem

A STREET OF SILENT SHADOWS

Tonight is the fist night of the rest of my life
I am counting the voices in my head-
they are twenty two.

They say:
Until you are twenty seven, you are not yet a man
But I am already a cave of unfulfilled dreams
And an inn of a thousand and one whores
That hold the body of their lovers in lust
And in everything that reminds saints of hell
But still call God out of his solace place

I never knew I was the colour of grieve
Until I found a part of me 
In every home in this close
And in the mouths that say the name of this city
And in every posters and billboards and flags
That survived the war that silenced this street

A man will walk upon my skin tomorrow-
barefooted. 
I will watch as he crosses over
I do not need to wear granites, or need to shave
For his footprints will be in blood that never dries
He has settled with his heart
And he has chosen the only path to freedom

Do not call me names you do not know
Do not search your mother's tongue
For I am neither flesh, nor bone, nor muscle
In the body of language
I am the unsettled wind
That carries every remain of war
I am the street of shadows-
searching the burning mirrors for their owners
In wetness and silence.
