Poem
Daddy has gone missing Lost his space at the dining table Found it at the bar table He will be home unstable He staggers to the door unaware of what he is capable The drink has taken over He fights with the door and Mom goes over Opens the door and the fight continues, not with the door this time. Mom ended up a jumbled Mess on the floor, she shed, she cried, she was strong. Been exposed to war, I have known war and alcohol as peace Been growing with it, dreaming on it, the nightmares of the screams and cries of a mother. She was poor and helpless, she could go nowhere Because of the children, she had to stay, this was her reason Just stay, for the sake of the children. Better they grow in war, but not without a mother, she swore to stay. She swallowed every pain, every loneliness, every tear went in. He came home and demanded food But the children have had nothing, Cry poor one, let the pain fade Not in front of the children Please not now 'Woun Para'. Come and sleep, do not wake up the neighbors But Jirani is awake and the children are watching. Tears flowing, this is the trend till the children are grown This is the trend till she can find a life of her own. She has legs but she cannot run She has hands, strength but she cannot defend herself She has to ‘vumilia tu’ for the sake of the children They need a father, just for the sake of the children But the father is Not home, but she has to be the father She does it for the sake of the children They will grow, they must learn to love They must learn to live with their families They must never forget their places at home They must always find home best For the sake of the children. She stays But she has legs to run She has the will to say enough She can say No! But she has to stay to teach her children The importance of the dining Table. In future they will meet one in life.
