Poem
There were bars that entrapped her Binary codes that captured her There were walls made of concrete Phones and messages, questions needing answers Paperwork, assignments, deadlines and digits Hello in the morning and silence by day Have a good night and drive home safely She stopped singing and smiling The canary fell incarcerated by corporations She plucked her feathers out trying to escape They had her because food, money, bills continued breath Five days charged by the codes in the matrix They robbed and stole extracurricular thoughts Strangling her by the throat with their threats We’ll cut you off and you will surely die You can drown in your singing and verse She plucked another yellow feather from her wing But there was food to eat and wine to drink At night the binary bars opened for sleep The phone silenced and the questions ceased Weighing what is worst and what is best Chose to stay in prison out of necessity Floods still come and go and wading in mud Clothes covered in bacterias and lies Meetings and participation in games unnecessary Must play or else the road of destitution is there However, two days did come and on time The suffocation of the Pharaoh and his whips stopped The bird opened the door of the cage just to try to fly Somehow she forgot how to flap her wings freely So day one, she stretched and fluttered those appendages Now, featherless and flight was sadly impossible The walls still trapped her on those two days Another way to fly, so she thought Yes, there is a horizon of gold in her mind She saw the sunset and the rainbows She saw other birds soaring towards the lights Closing her eyes, imagined her toes on the window sill The window opened by thought and she stretched her arms They were filled with feathers of all colors She felt the drifts of warm wind on her face The air then gave her lift and she was in flight Don’t open your eyes! See it in imagination She spread her wings that were full and beautiful Fly! Wherever she wills, for the birds are on wing Over tree-tops, over streams, way above the bars They can’t enslave the fledglings here The birds are free to fly and go and be whatever It is because God gave her the keys to freedom The lock is hidden within her soul The key and lock are seen through intuition Concentration on flight and doing the task Are within the gifts of imaginative thoughts And taking flight is available to birds She had to believe their existence Before the little bird took flight ©BJ
