Poem

They called it the city of magic
So I came here seeking a miracle

The quiet and wet roads I found
after a rainy day quite ordinary 

The mornings and the nights 
had nothing special about them

The monuments and churches
were just lifeless buildings

The voices I heard in the streets
were unfamiliar

But the sense of the words
felt known and similar

I packed my bag with things
and materials I'd forever own

And started for home
With a spirit forlorn

Years later I stand here again
in this unfamiliar soil

I feel the shadow of an old me
following my every step naively 

I look at her and I look at me
with shock and sharp roil

I see magic in every inch of her
And in every inch of me

Magic was probably always there
But I was lacking the ability to see
