THE BOY AND THE CIRCUS A boy lived in the country, close to a little town, But never saw a circus with animals and clowns. One day he saw a poster announcing of the time When there would be one coming into the town so fine. He got so all excited once he had heard the news, He asked his dad’s permission, this circus then to view. Though they lived poor and modest, his father said, “Okay, If you get your chores done early, I’ll send you on your way.” He did his chores all gladly, and off to town he went With money in his pocket so carefully to be spent. As he arrived, the people had gathered on the street, The circus now was coming, the drums began to beat. The boy watched all the cages of lions, tigers, bears, As each one slowly passed him as he was standing there. At last the clown came by him; he, thinking it was o’er. Gave him that only dollar his dad gave him before. He thought he saw the circus, but just saw the parade, Yet how oft are we like him in this world God has made? Do we accept the mundane, content with second best, Instead of God’s choice riches, His offer of sweet rest? Let’s live life to the fullest! Give all to Him! Aim high! It soon will all be worth it when we see Him by and by!
