Poem
A DREAM I went to church that Sunday as I had so oft before, I had my King James Bible, and my suit and tie I wore. My hair was combed so neatly, and I kept it cut so trim, Yes, I thought I was a Christian for I’d done so much for Him. But the shock so unexpected came as I pulled in the lot, For it was so very empty, even in the preacher’s spot. Oh, I thought I was just early, so I went up to the door, When I peered inside the window, there was no one on the floor. As I thought what could have happened, I remembered of a day When the preacher spoke of heaven and how we’d be caught away. I was sure the Bible said so, but I thought, “My life’s okay, My good works and all my morals surely won’t keep me away.” Now the tears were streaming downward as I thought it’s now too late, Jesus came, I was not ready, now for judgment I must wait. No more chance to trust His mercy, no more opportunity, Now my doom is sealed forever and His home I will not see. Then I woke with quite a shudder, though a dream it just had been, I then knew I was not righteous, I was still so lost in sin. Though I might be quite acquainted with the Bible and its word, And I might be in agreement with the preaching I have heard, And I might believe in Jesus as the only truth and way, And believe facts all about Him, yet there still must come a day When I receive that Savior as the payment for my sin, And His blessed Holy Spirit comes to me to live within. I responded to that dream then, on my knees I then did bow, He forgave me and received me, and His child I am now. So my friend, if you are thinking that your morals and good deeds Are enough to please the Father, there’s a truth that you must heed: You will stand before the judgment, and those filthy rags won’t do, You will hear Him say, “Depart, friend, for I never did know you.” There is just one way to heaven; do not turn that plan away, Trust in Jesus as your Savior, oh, my friend do it today!
