A NIGHT TO REMEMBER The plagues were sent by God to judge Egyptian deities, And one by one they came to earth to help His people see That all the gods Egyptians had were powerless to stay The great hand of Jehovah God upon their land that day. Yet Pharoah hardened his heart and would not let Israel go, Though insects, darkness, and disease had plagued his people so, Then one night God decided to send them a plague next morn; As He would pass throughout the land He’d slay all the firstborn. He issued to the Israelites a way they could be spared: They’d have to kill a little lamb and sprinkle its blood there Upon the outside of the door where everyone could see, And they were promised this would save them from the tragedy. Now Israel had to make a choice, because the lamb had fame; As head of all Egyptian gods, it could not, by law, be slain. And if a lamb was ever slain, the one who slew it died, And so their great predicament could not then be denied. They had to make a choice between the false gods of the land And the one true Jehovah God who’d given this command. And once they chose to slay the lamb, they could not silent be, Because the blood was placed outside where everyone could see. So that night as they shed the blood and to their houses went, They placed their faith in God as He the death angel then sent. And when they woke they saw His hand had saved them from this death, While all of Egypt’s firstborn sons had breathed their final breath. And so it was a special night, one they recall today When God passed over, saw the blood, and went another way. God proved to them who was true God: He was the God that’s true; The gods of Egypt had no power and nothing could they do. They could not kill the Israelites for taking a lamb’s life, Nor could they save Egypt’s firstborn who died there in the night. Nor can the gods of this world now save you from sin and death; You must trust in the Lord above while you still have your breath. Be not like Pharoah who back then just hardened his heart still; Come humbly to the Savior now, submit unto His will.
