Poem
Nineteen eighty-four was a year of forgotten memories. Somewhere in the United States a secret society was started called The Order of the Black Cage. Now it is two thousand-ten and so much has happened. This society caged people for their differences. They had eight square miles of steel iron cages reaching twenty feet tall so no one could escape. Every single phone was tapped, every text seen and cameras in every corner of every place of business and homes. No one could get away with anything. The outrageous thing was that no one even knew about this society. If they caught you doing something they didn’t like, you were sent to a cage and held in captivity, tortured daily by the cruel soldiers. Even after they erased all your memories, they still tortured the innocent who had no idea why. Finally, after two years of torture, you were put to death by lethal injection, which seemed rather nice compared to how they could have killed them. pure dictatorship torture to the worst degree punishment by death The days were long and the nights were longer as each innocent was persecuted for things that they didn’t even know they were doing wrong. A woman, pregnant with her first child was sent to a cage for being unwed. A man who texted a friend that he wanted to marry another man was also sent to a cage. Not knowing they were being watched was the worst part. A starving homeless man taking food out of a dumpster to eat was persecuted. A grandfather who put a stranger in his will was thrown in a cage. A café owner was caged for handing out free meals to a needy family. These things were not worthy of punishment. injustice for all pure innocence by nature you are being watched Now it is two thousand-seventeen and things have drastically changed. I was part of taking down the evil regime. I am an electrician and noticed a strange wire attached to a power line and investigated it. It took me a year to figure out what was going on. I had to sneak around like a scared mouse. Every time I turned a corner I shook with fear. I had wondered if the President of the United States knew about The Order of the Black Cage. I took a chance and sent a letter with all my research praying to God it wouldn’t be seen by the regime. Within two days I was approached by the FBI and secret service at my doorstep. Together we worked and finally brought down the mastermind behind the regime. His name was O’Brien and was from London. We had done it. We had saved the United States and all who entered it not knowing what would happen if they disobeyed rules they had no idea about. taking down evil was my true purpose in life- no more dictator 1984 or 2017 Contest March 22, 2017
