I don't know what exactly attracted me to it
I don't know why or how it resonated within me

Something old and characterful, perhaps it saw an equal in me?

The lane is old and windy, the traction sometimes mud or loose stone
I drive along it and I feel free, I do feel truly at home

The old oak door has seen many centuries past, it's rivets felt many dark winds
The stone floor over the cellar unevenly balanced so charmingly
The old roof beams span so evenly, King truss sits majestically
Though unequal width to both bearing ends the old fella sits so comfortably

A quiet stillness is found within its thick stone walls
An old eerie comfort cracks from the inglenook fully ablaze

A valley view past the old lane opens to vast hills, ancient woods and fields afar
A timeless imagery of beauty under the sun or moon gaze
Raptors perch on the tree at the bottom of the garden, cawing and screeching to yonder scene so old
Their observing confidence, so wild, so bold, so predatory
It's an awesome sight to behold, to hear and see the wild behaviours passed down over many a century

I can stand and watch nature play out in front of me through the valley view window of mine
Imagining the old aqueduct being built so victoriously 100 years ago

This old building has seen so many sun baked days and stood fast under many years of winter snow and ice rain

It's elevations show inconformity to the new houses being built today
It's stone walls built with no clear coursing strategy, it's lintels uneven but true

I love how it sits in the evening summer sun with its weird windows reflecting the last light of the day

I love it because it's my home, my castle, my souls refuge, what else could I possibly say?
