Poem
The Dragon, serpentine, jagged, fuming Curved neck twisted my way, His scales shimmering and reflecting the bottom depths of the well, Scrutinized me with fires of his personal hells Burning into my cool, oceanic repose He could see the universe in my pupils The chaos of its creation He could see that I knew of the wars long before my birth The crushing clashes in the heavens That led to his dwelling, From earth, to this pit, And the future he saw in waves that swelled the oceans... From this pit to everlasting nothingness Forever pain would have been comfort Than with Death, he would fall With Darkness, no reconciliation Only with nothing Becoming nothing The Dragon would not speak anymore in his vicious form, Too furious to form his words among the swellings the Holy Spirit The waters that rose and fell, Tough, then gentle As storms ease, So did the Spirit of God I sang gently to the dragon all the day, Wordless tunes in hopes to calm him- To help him understand that the furies of my message had to be shown For the protection of my soul And for the sake of prophesy and truth Heightened by the swelling waters, My rising balcony in which I stood, I faced him this day till time gathered her feathers, Meeting in with the night The demons hiding, compacted in the crevices, Hoping not to fall in the depths The horned dragon could go no way than up, So not as to touch what fulfilled me His nostrils flared and his body retreated upward at my closeness His slanted eyes of fire still locked in mine I saw no fear anymore in them, But anger, chiseled bitterness...and betrayal I had betrayed the dragon's hopes I had rebuked the Devil And he could not stand the thought of my touch He swiped his tail just inches from my face, Warning me to stay back, As my hand began to stretch toward him I stopped my hand and nodded understandingly I had cornered the beast And I knew I must back down Death, Hades, the demons all sighed, As the waters descended, Draining, seeping down into the bottom of the well, Slowly and softly, I too lowered with the waters, Till I reached the bottom of the well Light surrounded me as I looked up at him He remained still and silent His eyes open and ready I went into silent meditation, Praying to God, Be my armor, Victory only comes from You and your Son, How close am I, To know the answers? How far now must I seek them? I am in the midst of darkness, In the company of filth, Let him be reminded Let him realize my hope Chastise me if I am in the wrong Teach me to be the harmony in this dissonance... Backed up against the impenetrable entrance, He let the great seal burn against his back, His spine, his tail... A black soot oozing and surrounding him His reptilian retina focused He blinked once, Only once, And remained awake the rest of the night
