Poem
Legend has it that six hundred years ago, lived a creature of the wild. His name was Talos. He held the strength of a bear yet wore the coat of a fox. He was deep orange in color and had two ivory stripes running down his back. He was known as being evil back in those days, but later we learned he wasn’t as evil as everyone thought. Talos had two friends. A black raven named Jack and mighty lion named Sero. All three of them got into so much trouble that they were banned from their home village named Bluebell. It was one misty Saturday when the Talos, Jack and Sero decided to go on an adventure. They heard about a place deep in the woods where you could hunt for prey without worrying about King Titus punishing them. King Titus only allowed you to catch your prey for meals if you served him every day. He had the head of a wolf and the body of a bull. He was a hundred twenty-three years old and was very mean and crabby. As they entered the deep woods they heard a loud crashing noise. “BOOM! BANG! BOOM!” They got really scared and feared for the worst. They had never left Bluebell before so they had no idea what they were in for. As they approached an old White Oak tree they saw something dark out of the corner of their eyes. It was a monstrous beast who looked like something they’d never seen before! He had five black horns on his head, sharp razor like teeth and claws at least two feet long. Fearing for their lives they started running away, even Jack flew as far and fast as he could! Unknowingly the beast was behind them, they stopped to take a deep breath. After a few moments, they heard the beast. They turned around and there he was right in front of them! Just then the beast spoke, “WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE COMING INTO MY VILLAGE? WHAT GIVES YOU THE RIGHT TO HUNT HERE!?!” Talos looked at the beast with his voice shaking and answered, “ssoorrry, siirr, wee were juust soo huunggryy and ffammishhed.” The beast replied, “NO ONE SHALL ENTER THESE WOODS EXCEPT ME. I AM THE MASTER HERE AND YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO HUNT HERE! NOW YOU SHALL BE PUNISHED FOR YOUR CRIME.” The three of them were so scared they were silent for a few moments. Then Sero spoke, “whatever you need sir, we will do with much pleasure.” Jack and Talos looked at him like he was crazy. All they wanted to do was get out of there and return to Bluebell where they belonged. But needless to say, they all followed the beast to his lodge where he lived. The beast made them cook him meals, shave his claws razor sharp and clean up after his servants. They were tired and still very hungry. The beast would not give them any food to eat either. They got very weak and tired and Talos laid down on the hard wood floor with discomfort. After nightfall when the beast was sound asleep they decided they were going to try to escape from the wicked woods they thought they’d find a good meal in. The beast was snoring so loud it shook the house. They knew it was the perfect time to run away. So, they quietly snuck out and tip-toed towards the front of the woods leading them to Bluebell. Even Jack flew very softly and quietly not wanted to wake the beast or leave his friends behind. He was a faithful raven for sure. As they were on their journey back home they saw a dead deer laying on the ground. They finally had a meal! So, they all shared the meal and now they had much more strength to travel home. They finally reached Bluebell and guess who was waiting for them? King Titus! He actually got up off his thrown to catch them coming back to Bluebell. He was so angry and he screamed, “YOU THREE SHALL BE BANNED FROM BLUEBELL FOREVER! NEVER AGAIN SHALL YOU STEP FOOT IN THIS VILLAGE, YOU HEAR ME? I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN YOU! I NEVER LIKED YOU THREE ANYWAYS, SO THIS WILL BRING ME MUCH JOY TO SEE YOU GONE!” Talos, Sero and Jack looked at each other. They actually fell into such relief that they would no longer have to live with such a dictator anymore! They said no words back to King Titus, just walked away smiling. But where were they going to live now? They spent an hour discussing where they would travel to next and decided to find a place beyond Bluebell. Somewhere peaceful where all creatures lived in harmony. Talos and Sero walked side by side with Jack flying over them. It was a sight to be seen. All three best friends would learn to live on their own and not worry about being punished for wanting to catch prey. Legend has it that Talos, Sero and Jack found a new village to live in. It was full of emerald fields and creatures and animals ran freely. There was enough prey all around for them to survive there. The village was called, Rochester Hills. Never again would they have to worry about being scolded and told what to do. They built their own lodge to sleep in. Is this story a legend or is it true to life? A tale of mighty Talos, Sero and Jack- They encountered so much hunger and strife, and to Bluebell they never went back. Fable March 7, 2017
