"Freedom's Lament" Oh sweet Freedom how quick you have gone from Groom to Widower. How saddened are those who succumbed and labored so freed we could all be after Freedom had so long toiled and quarried to end the nightmare but now in vain we see as these vultures of division tear into our beloved freedom devouring all but bone, our freedom so dear, lays bare. How short our memory is of the pain of the loss of warriors, both man and woman both foe and friend from north and south united as one in battlefields from Church Street to Lusaka for freedoms lust. Remember them all we must, their brave souls taken not in vain we trust. Freedom taught us to forgive and build but forget this it seems some have. Whilst Freedom's "guardians" squabble like hyenas and feud as the Montagues and Capulets, mothers mourn as hunger and poverty spreads through the plains as the flame of Freedom for all grows dim. The world gazes awestruck by the once bright rainbow admired by all it's light now all but a memory as is the quarry wherein Freedom once so bravely toiled on a shore afar. A rainbow nation they say we are but divided as the colours on a rainbow theses "guardians" keep us. Learn from the past Freedom taught us but it seems some want to live in the past. Where and when will it end, these "guardian's" instruments to divide and not unite. It seems Freedom's dream all forgotten by the lust to divide. Oh how gluttonous these "guardian's" instruments of division have become feasting on our freedom despite Freedom saying "never again". What agenda do they have, we must ask, as unite they do not contrive maybe division ensures their hold. Perhaps they contrive to start the nightmare again, who knows. Avoid the nightmare at all costs we must as too close to the sun we fly, soon we will fall as Icarus fell. Oh Freedom Charter for all so ignored, the groans of your authors anguish for your sweet words written for ALL our freedom now fades as ink on ancient script... What of Freedom's legacy will be left for the children who soon will be Freedom's orphans lest we do not cease our nonesense. No answer we have as these "guardians" cackle and heckle under the shade of the jacaranda's and shadow of the mountain, the reds, the blues and the greens all divided like the colours on a rainbow, with no solution perhaps part of the problem they are. Oh Freedom where are you now? why did you have to leave us? save us ALL you would. Build we must, unite the rainbow as one and not divide as they do and seem to contrive. South Africans we all are, cease the division unity we need, pay heed we must for Freedom's lament. Our sweet and honorable Freedom.
