Poem
CONTRARY WINDS They got into the boat that day, `twas Jesus’ stern command; They didn’t want to go away, it wasn’t what they planned. Perhaps they looked into the sky and saw the billows there And knew a storm was very nigh, but Jesus didn’t care. He wanted to go off to be alone somewhere to pray, But soon His presence they would see, He promised them that day. And so they sailed into the lake and headed for a shore, But soon caught in a stormy wake, they cried with fear so sore. The night passed on and winds all blew and tossed the ship around, And all they right there then could do was try to head for ground. `Twas midnight and the storm raged on, and then the fourth watch came, And suddenly the waves upon a figure very strange. “Be not afraid,” He loudly cried, “for it is truly me; I promised you I would be nigh when in the storm you’d see.” The Lord then made the sea to cease all its contrary winds With just His simple word of “Peace” and He came gladly in. The men gave Him their thanks that night, and they were so amazed, They worshiped Jesus for His might and gave to Him their praise. And so though winds may blow in life so violent and so strong, And you or I may face some strife that seems to last so long, The presence of the Lord is there though He seems far away, He’s interceding in His prayer for you and I today. If you are in a storm today, don’t give up or despair, Contrary winds aren’t there to stay, and Christ will soon be there. When all these storms or life are past and we reach heaven’s shore, We’ll know the reasons there at last and sing forever more.
