Poem
My darling sweet sweet love Pete its been over three long months seems like eternity now since you departed and my world stopped And my sun became cold I miss you more with each breath and I take Every heart beat beats for you and only you my love How are you they say the war will be over by xmas I try to imagine what it's like over there in France I hope you are fed well and the war will be over soon Must seem strange to be so faraway when you never even left the village before Great news Mr Higginbotham Has promsed you a position as an apprentice at his office on your return! With great prospects oh it makes me happy I stand by the bay window looking out like a lost soul every single waking moment waiting for you to come home safe to me And take You to my breast once more and feel your warm embrace And your tickly mustachie on my skin again I dream about you all the time Mr Kitchner has told us to be strong and carry on I've heard some terrible rumours about the war over there In the village but don't believe such a place exists Strange to see the milkman Bob in uniform His wife like most women now are taking over the mens jobs Ma ma says'' it's not befitting a lady to wear trousers How shameful wouldn't happen in her day oh no'' Your Aunt Bessie is in hospital having an operation on her leg she sends her love Diasy wanted me to go to the pictures to see Charlie Chaplin But I declined I can't think of anything but you I looked in the mirror today and saw you looking back Oh and guess what The squire has a motorcar yes, I seen it myself on the back road A little man with a red flag ran in front Frightend all the horses Mr Figgs wasn't too pleased with his dray. I was in the post office on snail hill And Mrs Stubbs let me us the new telephone yes! Here's me Mrs Stubbs told me to shout'' Ahoy there'' I phoned My uncle Jim why I couldn't belive when he replied I tell you. it was so clear I thought he was in the room ha ha Mr and Mrs Pettinger next door their dog Button has had a litter of puppies Oh they send their greetings, They say I can have one Thought it be company while your away I'll call it smiler after you Haaaa...... I miss you so I wonder what you are doing both day and night Miss Smith the seamstress has made me a new dress I bought it with some money I've been saving in my piggy bank The same lady who made my wedding dress you know tall well spoken you know Do you remember Mr bluette when his camera exploded in a puff of smoke Chocked the lot of us ha ha it's funny now I had it made especially for you darling for your return and renewel of our voes Molly told Sally and Sally told me there's a flu pandemic or something sweeping many countries Hope it doesn't come here Mary had ten children all told died of a fever years ago All buried together in the church yard remember I pressed the flower you gave me the day you left to go to war In the Bible It will stay with me always to the grave They say this war will end all wars is that true? You looked like a proper man all smart like in your uniform I was so proud the girls in the village were so so jealous Seventeen and so handsome I wait and wait my love and hope one day soon You'll walk through the garden gate and shout ''Peaches'' as you always do And we walk hand in hand by the old oak on to the bejewelled meadow Adorned with dainty butter cups The place you proposed and gave your hear to me Then ypu lay me down on a bed of clover with the naked sky looking down And the warm sun caress our bare skin And the soft breeze gently teases stroking our bodies as you give yourself to me As the day we wed Oh what rapture what bliss I hunger for you so so much! I pray your safe return and read your letters to me over and over Keep them close to my heart I am nothing wthout you But everything with you Oh how my heart yearns for thee I must go and put our kitty to bed oh sisters stay safe my love Your girl your faithful wife Ann x Peter Dome.
