Poem
I love Christmas once again- for years I had just tolerated it, for it was full of deep sorrow for me and it just made me sad; but time has changed everything and this year is different, this year I am surrounded by love collected like gems. I have put up decorations and all my windows are lit up bright, blinking, multicolored lights hang wherever possible- it is nice; and I seem to have an obsession for Frosty the Snowman, and I am singing or humming Christmas tunes always. But, when I am thinking of Christmas past I am so forlorn, my mind goes back to when I was visiting Grandpa's farm; the family always went there for Christmas and it was lovely, the scenery winter white and we would chop down a tree. We decorated it with all sorts of old and new balls and lights, we sang happy songs by the fireplace while the turkey cooked; I sat on Grandpa's lap, snug and warm and full of happiness, then Grandpa would say, "its time feed the horses." Oh delight! That was for me the best part of the entire day, I hurried to put on my new red coat, hat and scarf (boots too); and out to the barn we went hand-in-hand- Grandpa was great! I did love the horses so much, especially one white one. Grandpa said, "he needs to walk." So I led him out of the barn, I was so little the huge horse had to bend down his head; laughing Grandpa said, "who is leading who my girl?" this Christmas memory is etched in my heart forever, ever. ________________________ December 25, 2016 (re-write from November 24, 2016, Heart of Christmas Beating) Narrative Submitted to the contest, Premier 1-Open Sponsor, Rob Carmack
