Poem
I am a photographer of wildlife and I was on an expedition, to capture the wilderness of North Alaska and the life of Inupiact Eskimo's; Alaska is full of rich history and natural wonders to discover, last year I had photographed the monasteries of Spruce Island; we were a group of three snowmobiles with a guide. We started out early in the morning with great excitement, and soon we were in a vast space of pure white snow that went forever; stopping at around noon for lunch and hot steaming coffee, when I went to start my snowmobile it sputtered but finally it roared; but a few miles on it croaked and came to a dead stop. The rest of the group came back and we tried to get it started, but it was hopeless, I knew there was a trapper's cabin in about 200 miles, and I told the group to go there for help and I would stay, there was some protest, but I insisted I was not leaving my equipment; so they set off leaving me with provisions and light. Soon it was dark and much colder, I settled down in a tent, I felt warm and cozy and somewhat safe, only the wind kept me company; until I heard some snorting noises and felt a forbidding feeling, peaking out I saw a huge black bear rummaging through my things; I did what any photographer would do, I took photos. And in time the bear got bored and left as quickly as he had come, in the dawn I began my wait, and I waited and waited and soon gave up; by the second day, I knew something must have happened, so I decided to set out on foot to a nearby summer abode, 100 miles away, the food was gone and I was drinking the cold snow. I don't even know how long it took me but I saw the cabin at last, but it was not uninhabited as smoke curled from the chimney above; somehow I was there banging on the door and it opened up wide, and there stood the most beautiful man I ever saw and I fell into his arms; it was instant love- now I live with him (a photographer too!) _________________________________ December 24, 2016 Poetry/Epic/Alaskan Expedition Copyright Protected, ID 16-860-585-0 All Right Reserved.
