Poem
Quietly, the memory of my grandfather manifested itself, In the colors and shimmers of the Holy Spirit, I saw his human face, The familiar lines, the flesh, The pair of oceanic eyes, slowly blinking Smiling, Like a heavenly beam Splashing upon a humbled earth Though I was interrupted by the soft cackle of the she-demon, Whom now was known as Darkness, Who had some hold on our dragon, Some strong connection I could barely conceive “Your grandfather, fallen, Like a dream, you cannot quite picture it fully— How he fought and toiled in the vales I have woven No poetry written could revive its spirit No Whitman, with his “Word over all…” Do you think your Prince is as alone, As your grandfather was in his end? Do you think your Prince needs you? As he needs me? Does he love you, As he loved you? Or does he love you, As I have always? I half expected it as such! You accepted my saddened state, How he beat and spat upon me, You gave mercy to a fiend, And quenched a fire Too long fed— I should think you ready to quench me, Or at least your Father is, The one who rejected us, far before eyes needed eyes…” I closed mine, Imagining for a moment, A life of blindness—a place not so long ago prevailing, A world still desperately needing the Lord God A world prevalent in future times “Accepted me, you did,” She continued. “Without thought, you offered me leeway to light, Whom I would happily marry, if only she were real…tangible… Reachable…” Her hand clamped my shoulder, And thus then the Great Dragon roared, His face contorting, teeth bared at Lady Darkness Her eyes widened with some sick anticipation, As she was surrounded wholly by his great mouth Dissipating, or more so bleeding away, He swallowed her whole, huffing as he did, For a moment, clawing steadily upon the muck under, Triumphantly engorging upon my thoughts Before silence could prevail any longer, The Dragon’s colossal form shrunk, A whirr of torrential winds tugged upon him, Almost in lashes did they whip his body The beastly form diminished slow, Though claws remained, A previous form taking hold of him again, Long legs, broad pointed shoulders, His back arched crookedly So that his eyes could lie on mine, And wings remained, large like his dragon form, Tattered upon the edges, and now blacker in color He licked his chops, as they tightened Slanted eyes, closed, He heaved a hot and heavy sigh Eyelashes slowly lifting In the coal black globes I could see her, I could remember, that only the Lord Could deliver me, I desperately hoped that He Would later explain to me That the deception could not fully be the mind of the Devil alone “Do not be alarmed, For I am used to engorging upon her, For she is me, and I her, separate at times, For who in my kingdom unifies perfectly To be sure, we are both Restless, impenetrable, sly… All these things and more, Lies await inside, A desire, All my own For you, For what you represent, With your infallible soul, And your lyrical voice… Shall we sing when such darkness resides within, Shall we sing, and to whom, Ourselves, or for others unworthy of our splendor!” I clutched his great hands in mine, Staring into the eyes, to see the gleam she once had shown, Marveling at his multitudinous forms, his alters, His sustaining lusts, And fortified hatred He sang, “Forget these trifles, beautiful soul, Recall our creations, Imagine our endeavors, together He prepares a city, Flat and humble, Every mountain shamed, Every greater thing crestfallen… He vows these things—as if to impress me!! Ah, no more tears, No more sorrow No more death—look here how he thrives! No more death, No more freedom, No more life No more me, No more the very best of you…” Closer now he held his gaze steady, Upon me, I breathed slowly, Listening...silencing dire passions “But when I am free from this prison, Do hear me, oh Love, My armies shall grow as mountains do form, But with haste and with horrific surety With pride and with unhinged purpose On our chariots real fire shall burn, Hellfire unseen, Untold My power—wild flames, sucking the dull out of the righteous I prepare a city that is not afraid to fall, Jagged and purposefully agitated, To drag with it, every good thing that tries to save it! Upon its dead, carcassed foundation, You shall see that it is I alone, Reigning supreme, Over man and spirit Over earth—for who shall inherit any other place in the universe, Who should love earth more than I, Its rightful tiller, its rightful possessor And who, shall feed my Darkness, Who shall keep her sustained and readied, But you, Wavering spirit, Crushed heroine! Coal-powdered diamond, Singed dove!"
