Brown and black boys
Gunned down by the boys in blue
The countless video footage seen
Every night on the evening news
It's the same story;
Different times, different places
But what they have in common
Is the pigment of their faces
We give our sons rules
Advice we think will save their lives
But pulling up sagging pants
Has not helped them to survive
We say watch your words
And be sure to comply
Do exactly what you're told
Or you just might die
Instead of getting justice,
Police are justified
No sympathy for the victims,
Instead they are vilified
Past criminal histories
Irrelevant records exposed
The innocent made to look guilty
By what the media disclosed
Things have changed
And yet remained the same
Overseer has turned into officer
Handcuffs replaced the chains
How many of our mothers
Will have to bury their sons?
Before we come to realize
We are public enemy number one.
