THE YEAR THEY CANCELED CHRISTMAS One year it was decided to cancel Christmas Day, It had been so offensive so many folks did say. And so, no decorations, no gifts from Santa Claus, No rushing to the stores then, for there was not a cause. The White House gave the order and broadcast it aloud; The President seemed happy and acted very proud. The other nations also were so glad for this law, For nothing very special in that day ever saw. And many, many churches had also gone along With such a firm, strong edict that they could sing no songs. Then, somewhere up in heaven the word had quickly spread That Christmas had been canceled with its manger and its bed. The angels gasped in silence, the saints there were amazed That no one would be seeking to spread good cheer that day. There’d be no gospel message, no souls would hear again The story of the Savior who came to save all men. “They tried to cancel Christmas!” old Gabriel said aloud; “I’ll show them how mistaken they are to be so proud!” He gathered every angel in heaven’s massive choir And told them of his plans then, of his dear heart’s desire. On Christmas Eve they gathered in to the sky again And shouted out that message throughout the sky to men. “To you is born a Savior! To you He came that day! To you He gives salvation from eternity’s dismay! So, try to cancel Christmas, but you can’t change a thing! The message from the heavens we still will loudly sing!” Some people heard that message and so ashamed they cried, “We’re sorry that we did it and with others we complied! We cannot cancel Christmas, for if we do, we know There’s no hope for salvation or up to heaven go!” Those people found God’s mercy, and He forgave them, too, And granted them a Christmas with hope so strong and true. The year they cancel Christmas? I hope it ne’er to be! I’ll never cancel Christmas! For it means ALL to me! If GOD had canceled Christmas, no story we could tell About the blessed Jesus, and we’d all be bound for hell, So let’s not cancel Christmas! Let’s His great message say: He wants to make His presence within YOUR heart today!
