Poem

I believed in you,
Loved you despite all your flaws.
I no longer believe in love.
You killed that part of me.
I hope you are content.
I will never contact you again.
I’m leaving you alone,
Because that’s what you wanted since the beginning.
I knew you didn’t love me,
But I really thought you cared about me;
At least a little bit.
You never showed it of course,
But I wanted it to be true so badly,
To believe it,
To make it happen.
You are like heroin to me,
Kills me slowly,
Leaving me craving more of that which hurts so much,
And though I’ll never know anything of you,
You will be that ominous cloud hanging over me,
Reminding me I’m not smart,
Clever,
Witty,
Or pretty enough.
Never have been,
Never will be.
Not for you,
Not for anyone.
Not even myself.
I want to thank you for that,
Not letting me go through life with my ridiculous
And delusional ideas of love.
You taught me so much.
Caring for someone,
Or wanting something to happen,
With all of yourself,
Is just not enough.
Dreams don’t come true.
To be happy,
You have to be heartless,
And cynic,
And cold.
I know that now.
People are poisonous.
You are poisonous,
But I was still there.
I would’ve done anything you asked me to,
Any whim.
Now I realise what you wanted was for me to exit your life.
You will forever remain a part of mine;
But we shall not meet,
Not in this life at least.
Maybe in the next I will be what you wanted,
I will be good enough for you.
Maybe we will meet in space and play in Pluto.
