Poem

I miss the way you used to lay across my chest. 
Your hair a mess and splashing in my face.  
Everything out of place but nothing mattered.  
Blonde waves crashing over blue eyes. 

Beneath blue skies.  

I miss the days when it was ok. 
When nothing could take you away.  

In my youth I dreamed of you. 
I saw you next to the green ocean. 
With your toes in the sand and freckles, 
       well, 
              you know where.  

Standing on a burnt-orange beach.  

In my dream you would lay with me. 
In the surf while the stars danced by. 
And I watched you sleep.  

Sometimes, 
deep at night, 
in the flickering of my t.v. light,
I'm still there.  

Just out of reach.  
With my head above water. 
Fighting the undertow and grasping at stars.
