Poem
In Biblical times there was a youngster name David who killed a lion and a bear. He also killed a terrorizing giant and became the second king of Israel. My oldest brother never became a king, but he slew several giants. They were figurative giants; but still, he disposed of them all, making life easier for all of his younger siblings. The name of the first giant was “MR. POVERTY”. He was the biggest and most intimidating of them all. But my brother disposed of MR. POVERTY'S hold over his life by being a hard worker and taking advantage of every opportunity that came his way. The second giant was “MR. I CAN’T”. MR. I CAN’T was not only huge, but both subtle and clever. He not only worked from the outside utilizing his brute strength, but he sought to work on the mind, taking away one’s confidence. Nevertheless, my brother slew him decisively by not only succeeding himself, but by also helping me and others to realize our abilities. With the jump-start that he gave to us, we were able to go as far as our dreams would take us. The third giant stepped up with the name of “MR. MAKE US RICH”. He was quickly dispatched when my brother decided to stop spending his life making ‘other people rich’. Instead, he began to believe strongly in himself and started his own business. The fourth giant to fall was “MR. RENT RECEIPTS”. He was slain when my brother purchased his own home and started investing in other properties. In so doing, he stopped receiving rental receipts and started to give them out to others. “MR. SELFISHNESS” was the fifth giant to fall, and he was put down because my brother refused to ignore the needs of others. Rather, he continued helping family members and others to better themselves. The sixth and final giant that was killed found satisfaction in convincing others to be like all the rest. This giant defied anyone having an independent spirit, or those who had the resolve to go their own way outside the crowd, or operate outside the box. His name was “MR. BE LIKE US”. My brother, whose name was also David, killed this giant, and like the Biblical David, he cut his head completely off. This giant wanted everybody to dance by his music; but my brother was compelled to be himself and found satisfaction in doing so. David just wanted to do things his way, which was the only way he knew. I never knew if David even had a favorite song, but if I had to guess, it would probably be Frank Sinatra’s song, “I Did It My Way”. 05132015cjPS
