Poem
The ships were full of our young men that so quickly turned old. Going home with pent up memories of death and destruction that left their hearts so very cold. Should you reach out to love them and they kinda pull back. They just need time and a little slack. Seeing a friend lose a limb or their life. What do you say to the child or the grieving wife. We give them credit for a job well done. But somehow credit doesn’t seem enough for the loss of a son. I don’t have all the facts so I can’t really judge I just pray we’re not in it for a vindictive grudge. Could this be the final stage. The end of modern man and the computer age. We never know what our future holds. Or even if another day will even unfold. This new century we may have found Pandora’s Box and maybe removed the seal. It’s like we’re traveling too fast on a worn out wheel. Murphy’s Law always seems to come into play. We‘ve had life too good, too long I guess is what I’m trying to say. Used to a person knew how much he made and how much he could spend. The price of things now has gone nearly insane and I don’t see a nearby end. No wonder our young have such hollow eyes. They’re not shown much hope nor much reason to survive. Global warming, threat of nuclear war, biological and chemical weaponry, fossil fuel depletion, over population, incurable plagues, bird flu, west nile virus, the list just goes on and on. These are but a few of the things we have laid at the feet of our children. If the world doesn’t stop bickering and start working together I’m afraid their future is going to be mighty bleak. God forgive us but I think we’ve gone too far and waited too long.
