Poem
I got a story 'bout a boy from the hood Stayed out of trouble tried as hard as he could Initiated when he was 12 years old They gave him a bandana and he did what he was told Within a couple years He held a gun inside his hand He said momma I'm in trouble I just can't escape these men A real soldier is an honest man With reasons why he fights But in the ghetto soldiers start as boys Who showed these boys what's right? The law said eye for eye They want to punish sin with sin So they gave him to a Deathseeker Much more bloodthirsty then him He was shown as less then human When the jury traced his steps A lawyer driven by an angry state Came out to call for death No open visits he's an animal now His mother prays daily just to hold him somehow Feels like like hes dreaming but he knows that he's not He sees a needle on the hand of the clock He said I don't have blood to match The blood that has been spilled I only lose two eyes And twenty teeth when I am killed Oh Lord, don't let them have me You are the judge of every man The shadow of death approaches And my life is in your hands A peaceful sleep came upon him In his final death row moments, he dreamt a final dream He was the judge inside a courtroom With a prosecuting team He looked down at a gavel Glowing red in his right hand Inside it was the rage Of many executed men Of course not all died innocent Not all had died forgiven But in this dream where he was judge He judged that all should still be living Awaiting sentence was the Deathseeker He stood betwixt the chains of hell And there were people beating on him To death! To death! To death, they yelled! The death row inmate raised his gavel And all the angry faces turned They expected him to call out death But this is what they heard It's true that oh so many died So this lawyer here could win But just because he did not feel for me Should l not feel for him? Deathseeker, you sought my death But I'll not seek the same You and I were once alike Do you see how much I've changed? A prosecuting attorney wakes from a fitful sleep... Deathseeker woke up sweating From that same disturbing dream And when he ran to check the time and date He saw it and he screamed A phantom pain ran through his arm As he dialled up the state He's innocent! He's innocent! I made a big mistake! Tell the governer! Ring the warden! We must review this case again! Uh...sir...I don't know how to say this But it's 12:03 am... By Kyle Ezra Kriticos
