THE LONGEST DAWN PART 2 H C SONNETS 5 Each stage of life left without a goodbye Youth, adult, work to live to earn your place Strive to eat, learn a trade you need to ply Bills, bills, bills, bills you must quicken the pace Mouths to feed the rich take to buy the bomb Wars to fund opulence one must display You pay for your health care, but there is none Bless the homeless, for who cares where they lay Bless the sick, the wounded, hope is near gone The price of a clock worth more than the poor No, stay down do not weep for hangers on Beat and abuse her she’s only a whore But then are a dog, a cat and a horse Made in the image of a greater source 6. Made in the image of a greater source Made from the dust of the ground or a rib Made from nature's great and explosive force From the slime we crawled, yet some say the crib But from whence, who cares, life is here to live Each to their own we must live and let be Don’t squander in hate, build and learn to give Why does it happen, this is wrong, why me Don’t feel sorry for your birth or your crawl Or for your leap through the apes up to man Get on with it grasp don’t stumble don’t fall Don’t moan don’t whine go live it while you can Yet life is a gift live before you die From child to adult many tears we cry. 7. From child to adult many tears we cry Each stage passes none notice till it’s gone The infant the child each stage we comply From child to adult life is a big con Santa’s not real the tooth fairy a lie Our hair doesn’t curl when we eat the crust Our parents grow old and our children die It’s greed rules the world, don’t forget lust The unsinkable sinks, we never learn Death by the thousands still happen, it’s wrong The unstoppable stops, does a worm turn Millions are spent just to hear Big Ben bong Yet our image from swamps or greater source Twists and turns are many, life runs its course 8. Twists and turns are many, life runs its course The planets align, the tides sweep the shore A pinprick in time, but a mighty force To leave our mark on earth, enter a score. Aim for the bullseye set in the middle You hold your head high, eyes straight, concentrate Focus your view as life’s not a riddle Worship your living don’t deliberate Invent, improve, heal the sick, stop the wars Kill the bomb not each other, we are men The rich safe with goods, assets locked in stores Audit their wealth, a sudden empty pen But you must fight, life is not for the faint A giver, a taker, a sin, no saint 9. A giver, a taker, a sin, no saint A swipe of the brush a slash with a knife Who lives and who dies, whose brush holds the paint To silence those hard done to in this life Colour, infirmity, things to despise To kick an easy target no one cares Not true shout the worthy, those that are wise My blood spills out red, don’t give yourself airs Equal we are all people me and you My skin burns in the sun, bones bend with age The tears of all fall when death hears its cue The book of life changes with each turned page Yet screams of first breath, little girl or boy There is nothing, everything, pain and joy © MANDY TAMS 24/5/2016
