Poem
A drought has come to human stage That makes me glad I’m of an age Where memories of rain at least Remind my soul of winsome feast, A time when middle class seem planned With worker’s skills more in demand. I may not live to see the end But rich seem worthless as a friend. Economy is trickle down Rich pee used beer in workers' cups Which poor must drink without a frown Or stay in dog house with the pups. Oh, sometimes they get thrown a bone Though marrow's all that's left behind, Like dog expected to atone For pedigree that's ill-defined. And who made up these pedigrees? Why rich, of course, they've high class fleas! So are they rich because they're smart? The answer's no, all act, played part! They’re born, no empathy at all Like blood stained diamonds in a mall Displayed on velvet, do you care? Compressed self-worth is all they share. The rich think they can laugh at fate, Are not renowned for self-control, Love, if it comes, can come too late, Their diamond shine burns cheap like coal. So when you pray pray for the rich, Though they’ll be laughing when you do For they would leave you in a ditch, So sure are they, you got your due! Best save your water for the poor Who’ll never turn you from their door, The child who recognizes gift as gift, With heart that offers Grace that’s swift, The ones who know where bread comes from And thus gives stranger their last crumb, The widow’s mite, though she gave least, Invited to the wedding feast. The rich are sure that God loves them They’re oh so glad that they’re not you, Though love of wealth the saints condemn So many buy this point of view. So if a rich man gives you bread, Where’s sacrifice, his future’s sound, Don’t let his gift go to your head You’re still a cur, your home his pound. Rich don’t have luck, it’s just their due, Care little who they step on too, If poor get trammeled on your path You camel riding psychopath, Should you arrive at heaven’s gate You’ll find its height has sealed your fate, The poor judged of least value here, The very ones that God holds dear. Yes, Jesus Christ is Socialist, Who worships Him must other’s love, And heaven lost when traitor kissed For silver’s gain that he dreamed of. Trust God’s provision for His own, If you should find yourself in jam, Don’t stockpile wealth, or covet throne, For blessing turn to great “I AM!” Long Tooth May 19, 2016
